Family-Run Food Wholesaler since 1972
John Devine started Devine Quality Foods in 1972 after working as a meat wholesaler for the Dalziel Co-operative in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.
The co-op were in transition and decided to stop van sales so offered John a store manager job. Instead, John decided, with his wife Margaret, to make the move to start their own business as he had a great rapport with his customers – many of whom we still supply today – and a good knowledge of the food business.
The business grew steadily through the 70’s and 80’s in difficult circumstances in Lanarkshire, with the closure of many large employers in the area including Colville and Ravenscraig steelworks.
Devine Foods continued to grow thanks to the loyalty of many customers who appreciated the good quality products and service provided by the business.
A Growing, Family Business
In the late 80’s, John brought his two sons, John and Anthony, into the family business along with Elizabeth McCabe as secretary.
Over the next 20 years, the company moved premises three times to increase space due to the demand for more products, storage and to accommodate more staff.
Moving into the 2000’s, the company moved to our present site on Orbiston Street, right in the heart of Motherwell and by then John’s daughter Marie had joined the business also.
Coming up to almost 50 years, and with the many changes in that time, Devine Quality Foods still continues to strive to give the best quality products and best service available to all our customers.
A real family business that cares about what we do.
